WALKING INTIMATELY WITH GOD
Text: Genesis 5:21-24
Key Verse: “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God has translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” – Hebrews 11:5KJV
The word used to describe intimacy in the Bible is fellowship and the original Greek rendition of the word is Koinonia (1 John 1:6), which means to continuously commune with someone. To be in a personal relationship with someone or an entity.
It is important for us to know that our walk with God is on the basis of intimacy. In our text for today, we’re considering the life of Enoch. He lived in a civilization similar to ours, a world that was and is still full of all forms of immorality and ungodliness (2 Tim. 3:1-9). However, in all of these, Enoch still made up his mind to walk intimately with God and we saw how on the basis of that walk of intimacy, he was testified to have pleased God and translated not to see death. The technological advancement in the world today has made men to trivialize calling upon the name of God. Now more than ever, the call to intimacy is strong and God is seeking men in the order of Moses, men who are ready to forsake the pleasures of Egypt to walk with God (Heb 11:25-26).
Now let’s look at the requirements to walk intimately with God:
Dead to the works of the flesh: Your appetite for sin will be dead before you can walk with God intimately, because the life of Christ does not give room to the works of the flesh (Romans 13:14, Galatians 5:24-25)
You must live a life of total obedience (1John 3:24, Rev 22:14)
You must be given to prayer and the word (Acts 6:4, Psalms 1:1-3)
A humble and a contrite heart (Psalms 34:18; 51:17, Isaiah 57:15).
PRAYER: Father, let the works of flesh die in me that I may know more of you
QUOTE: A man who walks with God always gets to his destination.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Corinthians 11:17 – 34
